The contest offers some hefty prizes for the winners: an iPad Mini, an iPod Touch and a $100 PhotoJoJo gift card. The City also gives each winner bragging rights.
Photographers of all skill and experience levels are invited to participate and can submit up to three photographs. Photo submission must be original, in color and minimally altered. Panoramic photos or photos taken outside of Spokane Valley city limits will not be considered.
The contest began July 1, but lucky for late-comers, it isn’t over yet. Contestants have until 4 pm on July 31 to submit their photos.
A city-appointed panel of judges will decide winners based on originality, creativity, photo quality and effectiveness in conveying the beauty and/or unique character of Spokane Valley.
The City is also hosting a video contest, with the same rules, conditions and procedure. Videos must be between 30 seconds and three minutes in length and must include the phrase "I am/we are/this is Spokane Valley," either spoken or written.
The City of Spokane Valley was incorporated in March 2003. The City hosted a birthday party, carnival and bazaar to celebrate its 10th anniversary in March of this year. Events throughout the year, including movie nights in the park, community recognition days and a group night at a Spokane Indians game, are continuing the celebration. They even have their own birthday song.
