  • 1210 Tavern

1210 E. Sherman Ave., Coeur d' Alene Coeur d'Alene/Post Falls

    208-765-1210

You won’t get served a shot at the 1210, which houses beer and wine only, but you might get served a borderline-unethical game of pool from someone with neck tattoos and a habit of nightlong chain smoking. Although the 1210 plunges about as deep as a dive bar can go without requiring a SCUBA license, patrons looking for a relaxed night should appreciate the low-key atmosphere and the German Shepherd that drinks beer with regulars. When the Kalispel Tribe bought the former Spokane Country Club, they tapped Executive Chef Tyler Schwenk (former of Beverly's at the Coeur d'Alene Resort) to create a menu that captured an upscale gastropub feel, but that was also family-friendly. The result is a widely varying menu featuring Schwenk's take on youthful foods and traditional classics alike, like the lobster corn dog appetizer, or the honey-stung fried chicken entrée. With sweeping views of the golf course below, a cozy bar and sizable patio that offers spectacular sunset views through the trees, 1898 is a place for both special occasions and post-golf refreshments. Daily happy hours from 4-6 pm offer downsized versions of many of Schwenk's regular menu mainstays, and Tuesday night hosts "Burgers and Brews," where diners can choose between two featured burgers that come with a 20-ounce pint of beer, all for the cool price of $15. Portions at 1898 are hearty, and with so many options, no matter your reason for stopping in, you'll find more than enough to sate your hunger and slake your thirst. (CHEY SCOTT)

The 219 has undergone a dramatic evolution in recent years, sparked by a complete renovation of the space to capture its original 1930s vibe. No longer considering themselves Idaho's "five-star dive bar," the 219 now boasts an outdoor patio and bar for summer nights under the stars, more than 20 craft beers on tap, an unique selection of wine and winning cocktail menu.

  • 238 Brewing

10321 E. Day Mt. Spokane Rd., Mead Spokane - North

    509-238-2739

Set among the picturesque, rolling hills of Green Bluff, the new brewery was opened earlier this year by experienced homebrewer Mike Beckman on his family’s Christmas tree farm. The small tasting room is cozy and rustic. During a visit this spring, it was packed with pretzel-snacking customers, who had tapped out several of the offerings. The staff, however, more than made up for the limited suds selection with hospitality, setting up chairs so visitors could take in the spectacular scenery.

24 Taps' name rings true about its beer selection — with a dozen local brews on tap plus 12 additional options behind the bar. The menu is packed with lots of appetizers under $10, like wings and jalapeño-stuffed tater tots. To top it all off, the walls are lined with 14, 75-inch TVs. (March 2015)

Located in the historic Greenbriar Inn, 315 Martinis and Tapas is an elegant answer to happy hour. Open at 3:15 pm Tue-Sun, enjoy small plates and drink discounts until 6 pm, or settle in next to the cozy fireplace for dinner (or the candlelight patio in summer) and stay for a full dinner. This progressive Coeur d’Alene bar and restaurant makes its own simple syrups (lemon and rosemary, jalapeño), infusions (bacon vodka, horseradish vodka, ginger vodka) and an assortment of bitters (five-pepper, huckleberry, aromatic, ginger-pear and lemon). • 4:20 Friendly

    1515 S. Lewis St. Spokane - West

    509-844-7287

Possibly the most inconspicuous of Eastern Washington's retail marijuana outlets, it's tucked away just off the Sunset Highway in a building that could easily be mistaken for a nice woodshed or small hunting lodge. Inside, a counter full of pipes and concentrates and a wall of buds in packages showcasing myriad strains shows that people hunting to get high have found the right place.
