  • Dockside Restaurant

115 S. Second St., Coeur d'Alene Resort, Lobby Floor Coeur d'Alene/Post Falls

    208-666-5799

You choose Dockside at the Coeur d’Alene Resort for the exceptional view — all booths face out to the lake — and a sprawling menu that runs from steak and fettucine, to burgers, ribeye steaks and sesame-crusted ahi tuna. The salad bar is always popular, along with Dockside’s signature ice cream sundaes. All six scoops. (July 2013)

  • Hong Kong Buffet

14700 E. Indiana Ave. Spokane Valley

    509-928-9799

A step up from what you might expect in a mall restaurant, this offering from Vicky Zheng (the owner of Hong Kong Express) is cheerful and almost elegant, decorated in teal and red, with ornate, calligraphy-covered wall hangings. You'll find everything you'd want from an Asian-inspired buffet: chow mein, teriyaki chicken, fried rice and even a dozen kinds of sushi. The quality is good — no limp veggies or oily noodles. Dishes are replenished often and served hot. If you are looking for a gut-busting lunch at a bargain price, you'll find it here.
  • Palm Court Grill

    10 S. Post St. Spokane - Downtown

    509-789-6848

Several years ago, the Davenport Hotel renovated its Palm Court Grill, adding a bar in the middle of the space and televisions for the sporting crowd. Along with this change came the decision to drop the restaurant’s dress code, making for fine dining in a more casual, relaxed environment, despite the historic hotel’s elegant atmosphere. Based on your mood or occasion, go for the exquisite, salt-crusted prime rib, or for the equally tasty charbroiled cheeseburger. Don’t fret, non-omnivores — there’s also a roasted butternut squash ravioli and vegan stuffed peppers on the Palm Court’s dinner menu. Should you want to go with a true Davenport classic, order the famous Davenport Crab Louis salad.

  • River's Edge Buffet

100 N. Hayford Rd. Airway Heights

    509-242-7000

Hands down the most luxurious buffet you’ll find in the Inland Northwest — thanks to a million-dollar expansion and renovation in 2012. This isn’t a cafeteria-style buffet. You’ll be waited on here, with servers bringing you drinks and offering to bring you seconds of their wood-fired artisan pizza (also a new offering). Four “action” stations allow guests to interact with the chefs and customize orders to their taste.

This place is all about options. Order individual dishes off the menu, or hit up the lunchtime buffet and nibble on the ever-changing array of dishes like chicken biryani (spiced chicken with basmati rice), aloo palak (potatoes, spices and spinach) and daal makhni (lentils, spices and butter). No matter what you decide, don’t forget the naan; the traditional Indian bread is delightful.

  • Top of China Buffet

    757 W. Appleway Ave. Coeur d'Alene/Post Falls

    208-676-8888

It’s sort of cheating to include a buffet here. After all, you can order just about anything and it’s all-you-can-eat. So at Top of China, take note of otherwise high-priced seafood and meat entrees like cheese mussels, peel-and-eat shrimp and General Tso’s chicken. Even for dinner ($10.49), it can be a bargain if you have a solid buffet strategy. (CS)
  • Top of India

    11114 E. Sprague Spokane Valley

    509-927-0500

This Spokane Valley gem offers an authentic Indian menu in a quiet, welcoming environment ideal for enjoying kormas (try the mushroom), paneers and pakoras. The recently redesigned interior boasts modern, clean lines that dominate the space, while rich colors add a touch of the exotic. The cuisine is equally well thought out and beautifully prepared; try the buffet to sample as many flavors as possible.
