  • The Boathouse Bar & Grill

3799 E. Hayden Lake Rd., Hayden Rural Idaho

The name of the restaurant has changed over the years, but the gorgeous view from Hayden Lake Marina has not. Recently under new management, The Boathouse has filled in the menu with chef Gabe Cruz's signature Southern- and New Orleans-style comfort foods like Spunky Crawfish Chowder ($10) and Pulled Pork Enchiladas ($11), or the Green Eggs and Ham Burger with tangy cotija cheese and Cruz's spicy salsa verdé ($11). • The Boiler Room

    6501 N. Cedar Spokane - North

Located in the new, mixed-use Cedar Crossing development, the Boiler Room serves up a menu of wood-fired craft pizza served piping hot on long wooden boards. Try the "Fireball," topped with Italian sausage, pepperoni, pancetta, peppers, chili flakes and Sriracha hot sauce. The "swill" aspect of the Boiler Room's tagline, "craft pizza and swill," includes housemade cocktails named after neighborhood streets and places. The draft and bottled beer list even features a few brews from its also new next-door-neighbor, Waddell's Brewpub & Grille. (Jan. 2014)

  • Bolo's

116 S. Best Rd. Spokane Valley

Like a lot of bars in Spokane Valley, this appears to be your usual neighborhood joint. Giant TVs loom above the pool tables. (Wouldn't be a Valley bar without them.) The big difference, though, is the full menu. Go on the weekends for waffles with gravy and a nice-sized pint. (TLM)

  • Boomers Classic Rock Bar & Grill

18219 E. Appleway Ave. Spokane Valley

Two things about Boomers Classic Rock Bar & Grill that you need to forget: it’s in a shopping center strip mall surrounded by grassy, empty lots; its next-door neighbor is an unrelated dive bar by the name of the Cum Inn. Once you’ve forgotten this, you’re free to enjoy the kind of place where bands play classic rock every weekend and the burgers are juicy and full-textured. The best seller is the Frankenstein, a burger decked out in fried Spam, fried egg, deep-fried onion, chipotle brown gravy and (says the menu) an ambulance. The Patty Benatar, Mr. Mojo Rising and Sublime burger each come with their own signature extras. (April 2013)

  • Boots Bakery & Lounge

    24 W. Main Ave. Spokane - Downtown

High ceilings, exposed brick walls and artsy murals make this one of the prettiest spots in downtown. But it’s the creative and artfully executed vegan and vegetarian bistro fare that’s creating such a buzz. And yes, the vegan carrot cake cupcakes are that good. (July 2013)

  • Borracho Tacos & Tequileria

Borracho wants to be the place you stop, whether you want to gorge on Mexican grub or kick back for some late-night drinks. The sleek, open bar carries more than 70 tequilas, 12 infused with fresh pressed juice in-house. (If you're feeling brave, let someone talk you into the ghostpepper tequila.) The spicy "street tacos" come at two bucks a pop with meat options ranging from pork to tongue. The nachos are piled high, as they should be, and the margaritas are strong. (Oct. 2013)
